🗺️ Day 1: Saigon’s Edge to Tra Vinh’s Tranquility (B, L, D/Cycle 60 Km)
- Route: Saigon – My Tho/Ben Tre (transfer/partial cycle) – Tra Vinh
- Approx. Cycling Distance: 60 km (with vehicle transfer from Saigon)
- Accommodation: basic hotel in Tra Vinh with private bathroom
The adventure begins by escaping the bustling urban sprawl of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). A morning vehicle transfer is essential to safely bypass the initial highway traffic, taking you to a quiet provincial starting point, likely near My Tho or Ben Tre.
Once on the bike, the Mekong Delta immediately reveals its charm. The route winds through vibrant fruit orchards and endless green rice paddies. You’ll experience the first of many quintessential Delta moments: crossing the broad, chocolate-colored tributaries of the Mekong on local ferries, connecting you to islands like those near Ben Tre, famous for its coconut candy production. The day’s ride culminates in Tra Vinh, a unique town known for its significant Khmer population and hundreds of centuries-old, towering dầu trees. After checking into your 3-star hotel, an evening stroll is highly recommended to admire the peaceful town square and the impressive architecture of the local Khmer pagodas.

🌾 Day 2: Tra Vinh’s Khmer Culture to the Gateway of the South, Ca Mau (B, L/Cycle 65 Km)
- Route: Tra Vinh – Soc Trang/Bac Lieu (partial cycle/transfer) – Cà Mau
- Approx. Cycling Distance: 65 km (with necessary long-distance transfer)
- Accommodation: 3-Star Hotel in Cà Mau
Today, we find the most challenging for you, as the journey pushes deep into the lower Delta. Beginning in Tra Vinh, the morning ride focuses on the area’s rich Khmer heritage. You’ll cycle past ancient Khmer temples, such as Ang Koraj Pagoda (Chua Hang) or Ba Om Pond, where the spiritual atmosphere is palpable.
Given the substantial road distance between Tra Vinh and Cà Mau, a significant portion of the journey will require a supporting vehicle transfer to preserve energy and ensure safety on main roads. The focus shifts from the open fields of the upper Delta to the unique mangrove and aquaculture landscape of the deep south. The late afternoon ride will bring you into Cà Mau City, a lively port town that serves as the last major hub before reaching Vietnam’s geographical extreme.
🌲 Day 3: Cà Mau to Đất Mũi: The Southernmost Frontier
- Route: Cà Mau – Năm Căn – Đất Mũi (Cycle/Boat)
- Approx. Cycling Distance: 60 km (with boat/vehicle support)
- Accommodation: Local Homestay in Đất Mũi
This is the day you reach the final frontier. The journey from Cà Mau City to Đất Mũi (Cape Cà Mau), the Southernmost Point of mainland Vietnam, is a unique expedition through a vast biosphere reserve of mangrove forests.
While new roads are being built, the traditional and most scenic way to traverse this unique, water-dominated terrain is a combination of cycling and boat travel. You’ll cycle along the newly constructed roads that slice through the dense mangrove, stopping to witness the locals farming shrimp or collecting seafood. The final leg often involves a speed boat or local canoe from Năm Căn, allowing you to appreciate the sheer expanse of the coastal swamp ecosystem. Upon arrival at the tip, you’ll take photos at the iconic GPS 0001 landmark and the Pano symbol—a moment of true accomplishment. The day concludes with a memorable homestay experience, offering an authentic taste of life in this isolated, tidal region, characterized by simple wooden homes built on stilts.
🛳️ Day 4: The Reverse Journey: Đất Mũi to Can Tho’s Bustle
- Route: Đất Mũi – Cà Mau (Boat/Transfer) – Cần Thơ
- Approx. Cycling Distance: 30 – 50 km (Cycling in Cần Thơ region)
- Accommodation: 3-Star Hotel in Cần Thơ
Having conquered the final tip, the focus of Day 4 is the long journey back north towards the central Delta hub of Cần Thơ.
You will depart Đất Mũi, likely by boat and then by vehicle transfer, traversing the same great distance covered in reverse. This is necessary because of the substantial kilometers between Cà Mau and Cần Thơ (well over 200 km of road). The afternoon is reserved for cycling in the peaceful, picturesque canals and backroads surrounding Cần Thơ. This area offers some of the best cycling in the Delta: smooth, quiet concrete paths, shaded by lush vegetation, and dotted with colorful wooden bridges. Arriving in Cần Thơ, the largest city in the Delta, the change of pace is noticeable. Your 3-star hotel offers a comfortable base for a celebratory evening exploring the vibrant Ninh Kiều Wharf.
🍍 Day 5: Floating Markets and the Final Return to Saigon
- Route: Cần Thơ (Cycle/Boat) – Saigon (Vehicle Transfer)
- Approx. Cycling Distance: 45 km
- Final Destination: Your booked hotel in Saigon
Your final morning starts before dawn with a quintessential Mekong Delta experience: a boat trip to the Cái Răng Floating Market. Witnessing the chaotic, yet rhythmic, commerce of boats selling pineapples, watermelons, and fresh produce is the perfect final immersion into Delta life.
After breakfast, your last cycling segment takes you through the charming orchards and smaller river islands near Cần Thơ, perhaps visiting a local rice noodle factory or a fruit orchard for a taste of the region’s bounty. Finally, the journey concludes as you pack up your bikes and board a comfortable vehicle for the $\sim 4-hour$ road transfer back to Saigon. The transition from the tranquil waterways and paddy fields to the non-stop energy of the big city marks the end of your incredible 5-day cycling odyssey, delivering you directly to your pre-booked hotel.
